"I decided to participate in Life with God because, while I have been working on the meditative aspect of my faith, I find the relational aspect much more difficult. I knew that I need to address this and was looking for a safe place for that. I think I needed the reminder about the goodness of relationship. My tendency is to either isolate or resist closeness. Life with God has encouraged me to face up to that resistance and try to challenge it. I think the most significant thing was allowing my struggles to be known to others. This is a challenge for me and I appreciated the safety to be able to talk about both past and present struggles in my faith and life. This course came at a time when I needed some structure to my spiritual life what with the sleep deprivation that our new baby brought with it and the normal professional demands on my life, I needed something regular to do to deepen my spiritual life. The focus on relationship, and the aural immersion in Scripture were fresh expressions for a traditional "Bible Study". "Life with God helps people to deepen their relationship with God, to open their heart and begin to explore what’s going on. All of this is done in a spirit of compassion and mercy. Although I knew intellectually that I have a relationship with God, I had never considered that God WANTS me to enter into a relationship with Him. I can deepen my relationship with God by talking to Him about the things that are in my heart, like a friend. There are things that may prevent us from having a deeper relationship with God – e.g., wounds from past relationships, relational habits, etc. God is compassionate and loving when we stray away from Him." – Margaret D.
